Title: Deputy Field Organizer
Reports to: Field Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent, Non-Exempt

Compensation: $20 per hour; This role’s benefits and compensation are subject to the terms of Jolt’s Collective Bargaining Agreement with the National Organization of Legal Services Workers Local 2320

Location:  In-person at one of Jolt’s regional locations in Houston/Dallas/San Antonio with flexibility for non-standard hours, weekends, and holidays.

SUMMARY

Jolt’s Deputy Field Organizers will work with their regional team to engage individuals on the importance of civic education and continued engagement to create change in Texas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducting voter registration including, but not limited to, high traffic areas, high school and college campuses, and community events
  • Work with the general public to advance Jolt’s initiatives, core issues, and civic participation by motivating voters to pledge to vote and informing voters of upcoming elections
  • Submit voter applications to elections office timely and in accordance with (Texas Election Code and local county deadlines)
  • Collaborating with Jolt team and community partners and leaders to coordinate times and events to register voters
  • Entering and tracking data daily including but not limited to voter data, community events, and volunteer interests
  • Routinely and effectively communicating with supervisor about about team voter registration and pledge card collection goals
  • Assisting in recruitment for leadership programming, volunteers, and student Chapter/club development 
  • Communicating daily with supervisor to coordinate schedule and coordinate with colleagues via phone, text, Google Suite apps, and Slack
  • Representing the organization effectively to the public
  • Engaging with high opportunity voters through door-to-door canvassing, block walking, attending community events, text and phone banking, and providing resources to support informed decision-making
  • Performing other duties as assigned
 

EXPECTED OUTCOMES

  • Maintain accurate records related to voter information with <5% error rate
  • Achieve pledge to vote cards for 90% of registered applications 
  • Achieve an overall voter turnout for Get out the Vote (GOTV) of >/= 40%
  • Maintaining Jolt’s public image and community relations, including promotion of special programming

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Reliable transportation, ability to commute to event locations all across the city (ies)
  • Standard hours are Tuesday through Saturday 11am to 7pm with strong flexibility to adjust schedule in accordance with assigned events
  • Eligible to register voters in the state of Texas and must be or become certified as a volunteer deputy registrar within two weeks of hire
  • Access to internet on a personal smartphone or other electronic device to data enter and research
  • Ability to carry and set up tabling/event equipment of at least 20 pounds 
  • Ability to stand or sit for an extended period of time while working in an indoor and outdoor environment
  • Experience in working with Google Suite, EveryAction, NGP VAN, and Blocks 
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual (English and Spanish)
